Las rederas
Cuando cae el sol en la Costa da Morte y los barcos pesqueros regresan al puerto, cientos de mujeres se inclinan desde hace siglos sobre las redes. Deben repararlas y dejarlas listas para la siguiente jornada. Es una tarea minuciosa y exigente, que se realiza durante las pocas horas que el barco pasa en tierra antes de volver a zarpar. Las rederas son las guardianas de una de las pocas artesanías profesionales que quedan en España. Su técnica encierra una gran tradición y sabiduría.
Net menders
For centuries now, when the sun sets over Costa da Morte and the fishing vessels return to port, thousands of women bend over the fishing nets. They must mend the nets and leave them ready for the following day. This demanding and meticulous task is carried out during the few hours that the vessel spends on land before setting sail once again. Net menders are the guardians of one of the few professional crafts that survive in Spain. Their technique entails great tradition and wisdom.

Algae
Algae, un conjunto de tres piezas realizadas por rederas de la localidad de Corme, pone en valor el trabajo tradicional y la maestría de estas mujeres, demostrando cómo las redes de pesca pueden transformarse en piezas con una utilidad, forma y escala totalmente diferentes respecto al original. Cada una de las piezas está inspirada en un tipo diferente de alga y teñida con un pigmento natural (algas, arcillas y minerales), del mismo modo que las redes se teñían en otros tiempos con corteza de pino para resultar menos visibles bajo el agua.
Algae
Algae, a set of three pieces crafted by net menders from the locality of Corme, honours the traditional craftmanship and mastery of these women and shows how fishing nets can be transformed into pieces with an entirely different use, shape and scale. Each piece is inspired by a different kind of seaweed and dyed with a natural pigment (seaweed, clay and minerals), in the same way that, back in the day, fishing nets were dyed with pine bark to render them less visible under water.
